Abstract

Key words: Amelioration, consortium of soil microbes, ex-mining, metal accumulation Revegetation of ex-mining site is limited by metal accumulation in soil. Selecting species that is adaptable to that site, is one effort to solve the problem. is not only a potential commodity of forest plantation but also a remarkable rehabilitation plants. This study is aimed at observing influences of soil amelioration and seedling inoculation on the growth of in ex-mining site. Before planting, the soil samples were ameliorated with organic matter namely sludge of paper mills, top soil (1:1 v/v) and non treatment as control then were incubated in saturated water for 15 days. Seedlings were inoculated with promoting microbes consortium compared to non-inoculated seedlings as control. Three months after planting, availability of Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu were assessed, both in soil and plants tissue. The results showed that soil amelioration with sludge of paper mills reduced Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu in soil significantly compared to top soil and control. This treatment also encouraged the growth of better than microbes inoculation. By sludge amelioration seedlings could accumulate more metals without showing toxicity symphtom.
