Abstract

the authors describe the continuity and changes in german policy towards israel since 1998. they identify many elements that remained constant with all different governments: - preference to the bilateral relation (alsways stregthened) than to MEPP - criticising Israel counterproductive - preference given to Israel than to universal values - suport to PA differences due to: - person in charge of the dossier (fischer first, then merkel) - role of personal relations - what is important and how ti si stressed population becoming more critical of the stances of the israeli govt. some changes also inside the govt.
