Accumulation of static charge on the surface of polymers can be prevented by reducing the material's surface resistivity. This is usually done by the addition of antistatic agents, conductive polymers or conductive fillers. The main applications of existing antistatic agents are in polyolefins, styrenic polymers and PVC but new products are now becoming available for use in specialist applications of polyolefins and engineering plastics.
