Abstract

CANNIBALISM has been observed twice in East African chimpanzee populations. This behaviour is rarely seen among wild mammals and is hitherto unrecorded in non-human primates. It provides some basis for speculation concerning the relationship between the predatory and aggressive behaviour of chimpanzees. © 1972 Nature Publishing Group.
