Abstract

Most existing work in attestation and trusted computing focuses on interactions between two computing devices. This section treats a higher goal – that of convincing the human operator of a computer that it is in a trustworthy state. These solutions sort into two categories: those where the user is in possession of an additional trustworthy device, and those based solely on the human’s sensory and cognitive abilities. An additional, though somewhat orthogonal, category concerns user-friendly techniques to pair two trustworthy devices, e.g., to establish a secure channel between two cellphones.
