Abstract

A cognitive approach, based on information processing by the users, is proposed for user model in an information retrieval context. A functional approach which deals with identifying cognitive characteristic, within the role played by the user model in an information retrieval architecture, is also proposed. All of the components of the model must interact together to identify the available information that is potentially relevant to the user information needs.
