Abstract

In January 2001, a small workshop at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen brought together a number of morphologists interested in the problem of affix ordering. The workshop was organized to discuss in depth two recent studies addressing the problem of affix ordering from two quite different perspectives: the dissertation of Jennifer Hay (Causes and consequences of word structure), and a manuscript by Nanna Fuhrhop and Mark Aronoff, Restricting suffix combinations in German and English: Closing suffixes and the monosuffix constraint (to appear in Natural Language and Linguistic Theory).
