Transient absorption spectroscopy is used to study the photo-induced electron detachment of OH- (aq). The electron is detached by exciting OH- (aq) to its charge-transfer-tosolvent state. The primary quantum yield of OH(aq) is 62 %, while recombination with e to-(aq) reduces the yield to 37 % after 5 ps and 13 % after 200 ps. The yield of hot (OH solvent )* ions is 38%. Rotational anisotropy measurements of OH- (aq) and OH(aq) yield a 1.9 ps reorientation time for OH-(aq), whereas no rotational anisotropy is resolved for the OH(aq) radicals.
