Abstract

This chapter summarizes materials and devices that were designed using nature as inspiration. These materials can incorporatemultiple functionalities, while the devices improve standard human designs. In addition, bioinspired technological processes are presented, which take place in mild environmental conditions, and complex structures that mimic the functionality of organs are discussed as a first step toward a better understanding of human and animal bodies. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.
