In São Teotónio Hospital, during a 4 years period (1994-1998) there were 13366 deliveries, and 1256 (9.4%) were infants of adolescents mothers. The aim of this study was to analysed the outcome for teenage pregnancy. The authors reviewed the clinical files of all deliveries during this period and analysed prematurity, intrauterine growth retardation, low birth weight and morbidity. The results from teenage mothers were compared to those of adult mothers. They concluded that preterm delivery, intrauterine growth retardation and low birth weight were more frequent in adolescent mothers (p<0,05).
