Abstract

Euphorbia hirta is a herbaceous plant that has active compounds with the potential as antioxidants. Information related to the antioxidant activity of Euphorbia Hirta can be a basis for seeing its potential to overcome oxidative stress in poultry. The study aimed to determine the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of old and young leaves of Euphorbia hirta. The method used in testing antioxidant activity is to use the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The results showed that old leaves had higher antioxidant activity than young leaves. The percent inhibition value of old leaves was 68.17% at a concentration of 11 ppm, and that of young leaves was 66.92% at a concentration of 11 ppm. The IC50 value of Euphorbia hirta from old leaves was 7.713 ppm, young leaves were 7.926 ppm, and vitamin C was 2.095 ppm. Judging from the IC50 value, the old and young leaves of Euphorbia hirta are classified as very strong antioxidants, in the same group as Vitamin C. Judging from their antioxidant activity, Euphorbia hirta has the potential to be used to treat oxidative stress in poultry.
