Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Cardiorespiratory Arrest in Basketball: Guidelines

Abstract

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) represents one of the major challenges for emergency and rehabilitation medicine because there is a large number of cases and the morbidity and mortality rates are high. Clinical and autopsy studies have shown that SCD is mostly associated with cardiorespiratory arrest (CA), especially in the early ages, and when it occurs unexpectedly in healthy victims, is a dramatic and emotionally impacting life-threatening event for health professionals, the family, and society. It is estimated that on average 300,000 to 350,000 deaths/year have occurred in the United States alone, which accounts for about 50% of cardiovascular deaths. In the past few decades, many insights into emergency awareness techniques, and its causes, mechanisms, and preventive and management strategies have been described in this context, so that evolving progress will show improved results.
