Abstract

This chapter illustrates how the EBP practice decision-making process is undertaken in work with Gabrielle, a 23-year-old African-American woman who became opioid dependent following a sports injury. Gabrielle self-referred with encouragement from many people in her life. Gabrielle has many strengths and no prior mental health history. Issues of assessment are addressed, and the six steps of the EBP process are each explored in detail. How EBP is done in practice is examined fully as it applies to the specifics of Gabrielle’s needs and strengths.
