This chapter reviews commonly used scales that have been used to rate athletic activities for a variety of knee injuries and disorders. The instruments are analyzed according to their strengths and potential biases as well as their measured reliability, validity, and responsiveness properties. In addition, several validated questionnaires are provided that may be used to determine an athlete’s psychological status both before surgery and postoperatively. Psychological factors such as fear of reinjury, anxiety, depression, and preoperative stress are common barriers to RTS and overall patient satisfaction after serious knee injuries and operations.
