Abstract

Objective: To reflect on nurses' work today, 2020, whose record in history will be marked by the Covid-19 pandemic. Method: Theoretical-philosophical reflection. Results: Covid-19 exposes to Brazilian society the multiple challenges of the nurse's work. Suffering at work, if present before the pandemic, is now intensified by the uniqueness of the new context, in the presence of the unknown, threatening, invisible agent that can be mortal. The pandemic of the new coronavirus demonstrates that the challenges for the nurse's work to be valued socially and economically are greater than previously thought. Conclusion: The work history and context in the pandemic demonstrate that the solidarity between the "work-dependent class" might be the indispensable amalgam for coping with Covid-19 and the dismantling of the rights of those who work.
