This chapter briefly describes each of the first-and second-line treatments for insomnia. Elaborated explanations and specific instructions are provided in the portion of this manual dedicated to "session-by-session" information. The most common cognitive-behavioral therapies for chronic insomnia are: stimulus control, sleep restriction, sleep hygiene, relaxation training, and cognitive therapy. Typically, therapy includes three or more of the above components.
