Introducing this issue of RIPC, this text describes the intensity of contentious mobilisations in Latin America during the twentieth century, as well as their transformations since the beginning of the 2000s, in terms of political environment, repertories, and strategies for action. In a second part, this paper discusses research clivages that still structure the analyse of Latin American social movements, and launches the debate proposed in this issue about directions for a revisiting conceptual and theoretical approaches.
