Abstract

A new model for particle transport in the freeboard has been derived on the basis of stochastic considerations combining the equation of particle motion and the randomly fluctuating gas velocity field. The observed velocity fluctuations were simply related to the diameter of erupting bubbles. Particle concentration was measured and good agreement was achieved between the predicted and experimental results.
