Abstract

Basing my approach on a broad definition of what applied studies are, I will in this chapter give examples of analyses relating to a variety of problem areas within society. My discussion of applied discourse analysis will cover both the spoken and the written sides of discourse. From a theoretical and methodological perspective this means that I will have to cover a wide range of research traditions, as the spoken and written sides of communication-though in real life strongly intertwined-have been studied by different research groups within different research traditions. from applied linguistics to applied discourse analysis / the educational setting / legal and bureaucratic settings / the medical-social setting / the workplace / science and the academic setting (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
