Abstract

Learning Objectives: After reading this chapter and answering the discussion questions that follow, you should be able to Discuss the relationship between health worker density and maternal and child health indicators. Critically analyze the challenges in health sector human resource planning, development, and maintenance in developing countries. Identify and discuss elements of successful training programs with respect to deployment, integration, supervision, support, and retention of MCH workers. Evaluate factors that influence the performance MCH workers and discuss gender issues related to MCH workforce in developing countries. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2009.
