Transitions from school to higher education: Understanding the needs of undergraduates at LSE

Abstract

This paper reports on initiatives at the London School of Economics (LSE) to better understand the needs of students entering higher education and throughout their undergraduate career. It draws on findings from the Student Ambassadors for Digital Literacy (SADL) project and also reflects on a new information literacy programme of workshops for 16 year old school students to help prepare them for higher education. The idea of student involvement in sharing their own digital literacy skills with peers though a network of student ambassadors is new to LSE and the challenges and successes will be discussed. Both initiatives provide valuable evidence to enhance the provision to all undergraduates.
