Data retention in Europe-the tele 2 case and beyond

Abstract

Provides an introduction to data retention case law from the CJEU. Analyses the Tele2 judgment (joined cases C-203/ 15 and C-698/15, Tele2 Sverige AB and Watson). Evaluates the impact of the judgment on national data retention regimes. Considers whether the judgment may have an impact on data protection law beyond data retention regulation.
