Abstract

Location information in both outdoor to indoor environments is essential for location-based service applications from critical services such as E911 and emergency fleet management to daily activities such as personal navigation and social networking. This paper describes recent technology advances and limitations for indoor positioning and the need for integrated solution for improved accuracy and availability. An integrated system based on Wi-Fi, camera image and floor plan database is proposed for indoor positioning and the test results demonstrate significantly improved system performance. © 2014 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
