Problems of cardiology are important concerns for pediatric patients throughout the world including those in tropical climates. This discussion reviews physical skills needed to differentiate cardiac problems that require expertise beyond the primary care clinician. It also reviews common cardiac conditions including issues that are unique to children in developing areas. Early recognition of cardiac problems can lead to improved outcomes in these children and adolescents.
