Abstract

The goals of this chapter are threefold. First we will provide an overview of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with a particular focus on issues related to diagnoses, developmental course, assessment and treatment. Subsequently, we will review neuropsychological and neuroimaging data, along with an array of models that have formed the conceptual framework for much of the current thinking regarding the neural bases of ADHD. Finally, we will briefly present a novel neurodevelopmental perspective on the neural substrates of ADHD as it evolves over the lifespan. This latter model is described in more detail elsewhere (Halperin & Schulz, 2006a). (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved)
