Abstract

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory facial dermatosis, more prevalent in individuals of Caucasian descent. Its classification into four subtypes (erythematotelangiectatic, papulopustular, phymatous and ocular) is based on predominant lesion morphology. However, there may be considerable overlap between these subtypes, with features such as persistent erythema, telangiectasia and increased skin sensitivity frequently seen. While an optimal treatment regime should be subtype specific, most patients with rosacea will benefit from general skin care management and photoprotection advice.
