Abstract

Scholars of higher education in North America and Europe pay little attention to Southeast Asia, even though it serves as an important source of international students in North America, the United Kingdom, and Australia. In terms of international student flows, this relative disregard is a sin of omission: Malaysia, for example, is not only among the top ten source countries for the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, but its own ongoing effort to position itself as an “Eduhub” has boosted the international competitiveness of its higher education system, which now attracts a large and growing number of international students.
