Welding is one of the most crucial manufacturing processes in shipbuilding and it is hazardous in terms of occupational safety and health. Fume emissions and gases emerged from welding are emitted to the welder’s breathing zone and the surrounding environment. Shielded metal arc welding is one of the most utilized arc welding processes in shipbuilding and fume emissions caused by welding electrodes are one of the most important pollutant sources in shipyards. In this study, welding of AH36 shipbuilding steel with covered rutile and basic electrodes using variety of welding parameters, analyzed by Anova method, has been realized. Fume formation rates from these experiments have been measured and results have been evaluated in terms of worker’s health and environmental friendliness.
