The objective of this study was to establish the relationship between social cohesion and school participation of primary and secondary students coming from schools in different administrative areas of the San Pedro de la Paz district, in Chile. The research method consisted on cross-sectional surveys, using a questionnaire constructed especially for the study. 693 students participated. We used models of comparison of means and bivariate correlations to respond to the research objectives. The results show a close relationship between social cohesion and students' school participation, similar to the scientific literature reviewed. On the other hand, the socio-economic level is highlighted as a factor that explains the differences in social cohesion and students' school participation, which adds to the empirical support for the socioeconomic determinants of the Chilean school system.
