Ultrasound remains the imaging modality of choice for evaluating patients with suspected right upper quadrant/liver pathology. Lack of ionizing radiation, widespread availability including portable availability, Doppler, and low cost favor ultrasound. The main limitations ultrasound includes are operator dependency, low tissue contrast, and inability to appropriately evaluate deep structures, as well as adequately penetrating obese patients.
