Abstract

Frost damage to plants is a widespread serious economic problem for agricultural and horticultural producers and the public at large. While global warming may elicit some benefit, it is unlikely that the problem will diminish greatly. Here, the frost hazard to plants is defined and discussed in terms of the physical and biological processes involved. Both passive and active methods of protection against frost damage are presented and discussed. Frost hazard is also discussed in terms of the probability and risk of occurrence.
