Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of intelligent traffic control at intersections of road networks of large cities. The problem of optimization of a signalized intersection is set that is based on joint choice of the phase separation of passage directions and duration of traffic light cycle phases. The detailed representation of a crossroads is introduced, and formulas for evaluating structural safety for an arbitrary scheme of its passage are introduced. On their basis, the combinatorial problem of structural optimization of a traffic light cycle is set that enables the establishment of most safe phase-separation schemes. The similar optimization problem of phases’ duration choice according to established traffic demand is set as well. An approach to the solution of the latter on the basis of detailed simulation of traffic through an intersection is offered. The problem of “education” of drivers that provides the efficiency of the proposed control system is discussed.
