Abstract

The parameters of a diffusion-type model for depth-dependent bioturbation are examined with a view to clarifying the definition of biodiffusion, providing explicit criteria for the validity of the diffusion analogy, establishing the correct forms of the tracer conservation equations, and evaluating the role of a spatially-dependent biodiffusion coefficient.-M.S.
