Abstract

Learning Objectives: After reading this chapter and answering the discussion questions that follow, you should be able to Discuss how maternal and child health gained recognition in industrialized countries and subsequently became a focal point of development assistance to less developed countries. Identify significant milestones in international cooperation in maternal and child health (including specific programs and initiatives) to illustrate how maternal and child health agenda has evolved over the past 60 years. Evaluate current international cooperation in maternal and child health within the context of shifting ideologies in global health. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2009.
