Experimental investigation of exchange equilibria in the system cordierite-garnet-biotite.

Abstract

Experimental work in this system at 550-1000oC and 5-7 kbar is reported. The resulting data for cordierite-garnet and biotite-garnet geothermometers have been applied to determining the T of mineral equilibria in metamorphosed pelitic rocks of the Hankay formation, Far-Eastern USSR, and show good agreement. The extent of retrograde metamorphism can also be estimated.-R.A.H.
