Abstract

Interpreting technology by the entities responsible for decision-making at different levels of production systems has currently taken on great importance. Such behavior has been especially reflected in Colombia in strategic sectors producing competitive advantages for the country. The software industry and its associated services (SSA being one of them), characterised by their rapid growth and producing high added value, is based on know-how thereby providing a suitable setting for research and development. Such characteristics, linked to the current dynamics of managing information as support for suitable decision-making, have favoured formulating the basis for implementing a model of technological intelligence in the SSA industry. The integrated application of management tools is thus proposed (i.e. performance analysis, benchmarking, “prospectiva”, technological monitoring) for ensuring suitable identification, analysis and handling of relevant information. This would lead to taking better advantage of technology and facilitating organisations”’ decision-making. Know-how would be transferred to actors coordinating the sector and there would be strategic structuring, including socialisation and feedback. In the light of the above, the current state of the industry is reviewed, development perspectives up to 2015 and opportunities for strengthening the industry.
