Abstract

Over the last decades, the European Union developed from the little-institutionalized European Coal and Steel Community to the much-institutionalized union we see today, with its own parliament and regulatory power in many areas. Although the public support of the transfer of more competencies to the EU has dwindled, officials and politicians see the solution to today’s challenges in more power at EU level.
