Abstract

India has the world's second largest population with a majority residing in rural areas. It is a rapidly developing country but a significant proportion currently lives below the poverty line. Per capita income in the country is low. WHO data in 2007 put total expenditure on health per capita in India in the US $25-50 range, better than some South Asian and African nations (at $5,000).,000-5,000) or USA and Scandinavia (>$5,000).
