Abstract

The need for global health imaging expertise and resources is increasingly apparent. Unlike many other medical specialties, the modern radiology enterprise consists of a variety of skilled stakeholders with diverse expertise. Strategies for responsible education and sustainable outreach program development include designing and executing a formalized curriculum focused on components necessary for medical imaging utilization in low-resource settings. This chapter will touch upon related important components of global health imaging program development including principles of successful models, the role of research, challenges and controversies, and future directions for global health imaging education and volunteer programs. Though global health imaging as a field remains in the earliest stages, through a sustained multidisciplinary approach, global health imaging volunteer and education efforts will be successful in the long term.
