Supraspinatus tendonitis secondary to subacromial impingement is one of the most common causes of shoulder pain. Subacromial impingement is a heterogeneous condition with many possible causes, ranging from anatomical abnormalities of the coracoacromial arch to functional derangements allowing superior migration of the humeral head during elevation of the arm. Because of this heterogeneity, it is difficult to diagnose this condition with ultrasound using only 1 or 2 criteria. In this study, a wide range of diagnostic parameters was used in a logistic regression model to provide an accurate, objective method for the sonographic diagnosis of subacromial impingement in the intact rotator cuff.
