This volume is intended to provide a comprehensive, international, and multidisciplinary perspective on the current state of knowledge on the most important components of quality of life (QoL) in old age. With these concluding remarks we attempt to extract and synthesise the various contributors’ main ‘messages’ and identify the remaining gaps with respect to theory, methodology, and research. With regard to research we can additionally draw on a recently completed European Framework Programme project which, among other things, has been developing recommendations for research on QoL in old age (Walker and Cook, 2004).
