Abstract

DefinitionTo compensate for the disadvantages of the client-server approach and peer-to-peer approach for video transmission, a number of hybrid approaches have been proposed recently.Due to the expensive deployment and maintenance of proxy server, the stringent requirement for video broadcasting in a single server, and the dynamic nature of peer-to-peer (P2P) transmission, a number of hybrid approaches have been proposed to take the benefit of either approach for video transmission recently.Xu et al. [1] proposed a CDN-P2P architecture that integrates both P2P and CDN (Content Distribution Network) to provide a cost-effective solution for video services. In this architecture, these two technologies complement each other. The distribution process of video data in this framework involves three stages.
