The title compound, C10H11NO5, is of inter-est with respect to its anti-dyslipidemic activity. It was prepared by reaction of 4-nitro-phenol with ethyl 2-bromo-2-methyl-propionate followed by ethyl ester hydrolysis. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into centrosymmetric dimers by inter-molecular O - H⋯O hydrogen bonds and the dimers are connected into chains by weak C - H⋯O inter-actions. The packing is further stabilized by offset π-π inter-actions between adjacent benzene rings with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.8643 (17) Å. © 2008.
