Abstract

In this chapter, first relevant terms/constructs are reviewed. Key notions regarding youth development versus positive youth development (PYD), community youth development, and youth career development are clarified; examples are provided of relevant Western research. The linkages between youth career development, on the one hand, and PYD and community youth development, on the other hand, are explored. Next, these linkages are substantiated through an example of a faith-based/religious community's youth services in India. This simultaneously is a step toward righting the balance between scientific knowledge sourced from (and representing) the East versus the West (see Yang, 2012). In the closing sections of the chapter, implications for career practitioners, relevance for multiple cultures, and new directions for the. field are outlined.
