Importância do Agronegócio para o Crescimento Econômico de Brasil e Estados Unidos

Abstract

The Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture did not contain the protectionism in the world agriculture, which became important theme in the forums of WTO. This work intends to esteem and compare the degree of importance of the agribusiness sectors in the generation of economic growth in Brazil and in the USA. For that, the input-output matrix of Brazil and USA were used to estimate indexes of Rasmussen-Hirschman and of pure indexes. These indicators show that sectors of the agribusiness are important for the generation of the economic growth in both countries, but with greater impacts in the growth of the Brazilian economy. RESUMO O Acordo Agrícola da Rodada Uruguai não conteve o protecionismo na agricultura mundial, tornando-se tema importante nos fóruns de negociações multilaterais da OMC. Este trabalho objetiva estimar e comparar o grau de importância dos setores agroindustriais na geração de crescimento econômico no Brasil e nos EUA. Para isso, usaram-se as matrizes de insumo-produto de Brasil e EUA na estimação de índices de Rasmussen-Hirschman e de índices puros de ligação. Esses indicadores mostram que setores da agricultura, pecuária e agronegócio são importantes para a geração do crescimento econômico em ambos os países, mas com maiores impactos no crescimento da economia brasileira.
