Abstract

Six cases of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in South Iran are presented: all occurred among small infants in an institution; one was a congenital case. These constitute a high morbidity and mortality rate among the inmates over a period of 20 months; 121/2 % of all children who died during the observation period died of this pulmonary infection. It follows, therefore, that the problem of pneumocystis pneumonia in South Iran is a severe one.
