Three basic Fawbush-Miller tornado-forecast rules are discussed in the light of experience gained during nine years operation of the USAF Severe Weather Warning Center. These three rules are then related to five tornado-producing synoptic patterns and the suggestion made that the latter are suitable to serve as a basis for an analog system. The discussion is sufficiently detailed to be of operational value to the field forecaster.
