Abstract

This chapter gives a comprehensive overview of the perioperative management of patients requiring pancreatic surgery. It is divided into two main sections. The first section presents a classification of the conditions requiring surgery including an exploration of adenocarcinoma and other neoplasms of the pancreas. Then the surgical management of acute and chronic pancreatitis and emergency pancreatic surgery is considered. We give an overview of surgical resections and debridement techniques. The second section covers perioperative anaesthetic management for pancreatic surgery from patient selection, preparation and optimisation to Intraoperative controversies and postoperative management and complications.
