In , a mathematical description of fast flows of granular materials was developed within a continuum scheme, arriving at the system of evolution equations proposed in  using Grad's method of moments for determining the form of balance laws including collisional transfers and productions due to inelastic effects. Here, by using the constitutive relations proposed in , in the one-dimensional case, we investigate the propagation of asymptotic waves either in a constant state or in a nonconstant state of the associated hyperbolic system. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd.
