Abstract

The porang plant (Amorphophallus muelleri) is a tuber-producing plant that can be processed and consumed which belongs to the genus Amorphophallus. In recent years, the price of porang tubers has skyrocketed, accompanied by increased interest in growing tubers. However, like other plants, porang plants are susceptible to attack by pests and diseases. Porang plant production potential can be improved for the better through evaluation of plant diseases and pests that infect porang plants. Some of the pests reported to damage porang include: Mushrooms, locust pests, caterpillar pests, nematodes and locusts. The use of an expert system can be used as an alternative to find a way out in diagnosing diseases in porang plants. One method in an expert system that can be used to diagnose pests and diseases in porang plants is the backward chaining method. The backward chaining method is an effective and efficient method in identifying the causes of a problem, so that it can assist farmers in taking appropriate actions to control pest and disease problems in porang plants. This system can be used by porang plant farmers who are experiencing symptoms of porang plant pests and diseases.
